Artspace at Zoom Art Fair Miami with Zakaria Ramhani

In their first year opening, ZOOM will take leadership in bringing the Middle East and its Diaspora to Miami. They will be debuting amongst the International fairs in December 1st to the 5th 2010. ZOOM welcomes Artspace gallery to represent one of their most promising artist Zakaria Ramhani.

One of the most thrilling moments for International Art takes place every year in Miami. Art Basel Miami Beach alongside with other satellite fairs brings to the city an unseen cultural and artistic buzz. This year it will be up to ZOOM to expose exhibitors, critics, collectors and the general public to the world of Contemporary Art of the Middle East, in the aim of increasing artistic awareness of this diverse geographical region. “ZOOM will present a comprehensive forum as well as a unique opportunity to experience and debate the latest developments of artistic production in the dynamic Middle Eastern Region.”

In the intent to succeed in their debut year ZOOM has invited leading international galleries. Amongst them Artspace has confirmed their participation. Sossy Dikijian, Art Director of Artspace states, “We are extremely proud to be a part of ZOOM Art Fair. In the time where Miami is a pivoting point for art, Zoom creates an opportunity to expose the Middle East to a new market and gives us a chance to promote our gallery and artists.”

With their established expertise, Artspace has decided to promote the work of Zakaria Ramhani. His innovative work involves investigations and uses a variety of writing and language from which a face emerges to create a portrait. Ramhani cleverly turns simple but colourful modern writing and language in the creation of vibrant and mesmerising faces that draw the viewer in. Commenting on his artistic endeavour the artist says “When I returned home to Tangier (Morocco) after spending eight months living in France, I began writing on the canvas rather than painting on it. I no longer painted pictures; I wrote portraits.”

Since its foundation in 2003, Artspace has been dedicated to the promotion of Contemporary Middle Eastern Art and Artists. They have become a key player in the contemporary art field through local and international partnerships with highly acclaimed art houses, auction establishments and art fairs, which have helped push Artspace into the forefront of the market.
Ramhani’s works will be exposed in ZOOM Contemporary Art Fair, Miami, from the 1st to the 5th of December 2010.
